Event Title:  Town Hall on Mortgage Foreclosures

When:  August 14th

Where: Pontiac City Hall

Time: 6-8 pm

Description of Event:

Pontiac- Representative Melton announces a Town Hall meeting to discuss the impact of mortgage foreclosure upon our state and community.  Pontiac is suffering foreclosures at one of the fastest rates in the state.  The meeting will be attended by officials from ACORN -The Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now - the nation's largest communityorganization of low and moderate income families, working together for social justice andstronger communities. 

 

"Right now, many residents of this state are facing critical situations with their home mortgages.  I hope that this event will help to arm them with knowledge and protect their largest investment against delinquency and foreclosure." said Rep. Melton.

 

Attendees of this event will receive information on: what to do if you're behind on your mortgage and you fear losing your home, present advice from professionals on what to do when faced with a foreclosure, inform you of helpful resources that are available.

 

Event Title: Minority Health Summit

When: Friday, September 14th

Where: Kellogg Hotel & Conference Center, East Lansing

Time: 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Transportation:  Representative Melton is providing a luxury bus which will be leaving the Bowen's Senior Center at 7:30 a.m. on the 14th.  The bus is available for the first 55 seniors that sign up with Alice Thompson (president of the Bowen's Center).

Description of Event:  This is a one day conference on health care and disease prevention.  There will be free health screenings, healthy eating with Chef Oliver Hale, and sessions on asthma, diabetes, heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, osteoporosis and arthritis.  Lunch will be provided with the featured guest speaker Dr. Lisa Thorton who is the host of Lifetime Channel's Health Corner.
