Melton announces Re-election bid

April 30, 2010

 Melton Runs for Re-election
Rep. Tim Melton announces he is running for a final term in the State House

LANSING - Tim Melton, State Representative covering Pontiac and Auburn Hills is announcing his re-election campaign.  Melton is currently serving in his fourth year, and is eligible for one more term.  Melton is an Assistant Majority Floor Leader, and Chair of the House Education committee.  "I am so excited to have a chance to represent the people of Pontiac and Auburn Hills for another term.  I am proud of my leadership in Lansing, and my work on behalf of the 29th District."

In Melton's two terms in Lansing he has been a leading advocate for improving education, and bringing more jobs to the state.  "I stand on my legislative record, but I am most proud of my work serving the constituents of Pontiac and Auburn Hills."  Melton maintains a full time district office to address constituents concerns and everyday issues.  He has successfully directed additional state resources to local public safety, and fought to create an equitable funding system for local school districts.  Melton has also partnered with local businesses and churches to set up over 50 computer labs in the community.  While serving in his second term as Chair of the House Education committee, Melton has championed a number of important education measures.  He led efforts to pass sweeping education reform bills that included fixing our lowest performing schools, and raising the dropout age.  In his first term, he sponsored and passed legislation to increase access to an affordable college education.  His Promise Zone legislation has created ten zones around Michigan that guarantees free college tuition for students residing in those communities.  Melton has worked hard to raise money for the Pontiac Promise Zone.  "We must recognize the importance our schools have in the success of our communities and our economy." These changes will help make Michigan a leader in education, which is essential to the turnaround of Michigan's economy.

Melton has also sponsored and passed legislation dealing with insurance and predatory lending practices, energy reform, and incentives for local businesses. He will continue to work on leveraging more jobs and resources to the 29th District.  "My work is not done, and I look forward to talking with constituents about moving our community forward."
