All schools should have joined 'Race to the Top'

January 21, 2010

The education reform bills passed last month will help Michigan qualify for federal 'Race to the Top' dollars.  The changes made were issues we have worked on long before 'Race to the Top'.  Regardless of any federal dollars, these reforms were long overdue, and consistent with improving K-12 education in Michigan.

Today the Oakland Press editorialized about local school district's signing onto the 'Race to the Top' application.  It is important to recognize that the reforms put in place are changes to state law, that all districts comply with.  Signing onto the application would allow districts to gain additional dollars.
